Aviation Department
Located 3 miles northwest of the city, the Municipal airport is one of the busiest general aviation airport in northern Indiana. Aviation Association of Indiana's Fall 2006 report lists Elkhart's economic impact on the community at $36,236,503; and was recently nominated "Airport of the Year".

With three runways, the airport averages 85 operations per day. A full Instrument Landing System guides aircraft to
the 6500' x 120' primary runway. The crosswind runway is 4001' x 75' and our new turf runway is 2500' x 100'. Travel Management Company is the newest tenant on the field providing aircraft charter and management. Conveniently located at the intersection of CR 6 and CR 5, TMC stands ready with their fleet of aircraft to serve your flying needs. The full-service Fixed Base Operator provides all aircraft support including aircraft management, charter, flight instruction, and maintenance. Home to some 85 based aircraft, various flight clubs, an Experimental Aircraft Association, Elkhart Municipal is also host to the annual Airshow with more than 20 years of exciting performances. An avionics repair and insallation shop also provides aircraft maintenance. Elkhart now has a Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance (LPV) appraoch made possible by FAA's Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). One of only a few in the nation! A new control tower was constructed in 2001 with all new equipment. An Automated Weather Observation Station continues to provide updated weather information 24 hours a day accessible by dialing 574-264-9002. Elkhart holds a FAR 139 ACM for operations of aircraft with 30 passenger seats or more, has on-site 24-hour Crash Fire Rescue, available hangar space, land for build-to-suit hangars, has competitive prices, and is centrally located in the mid-west. With all these attributes, Elkhart is poised to grow with the aviation industry well into the future.

The U. S. Department of Transportation has awarded the City of Elkhart $55,029 for design work for rehabilitation of the north general aviation apron at the Elkhart Municipal Airport.
