City of Elkhart, Indiana

Public Works & Utilities Department - EnviroCorps

From 1994-2008 Elkhart EnviroCorps served the Elkhart community focusing on environmental education, community outreach and restoration projects.  Although no longer an AmeriCorps national service program, the City is proud to have run one of the oldest AmeriCorps program in the state and one of the few programs nationally that has been around since the inception of the AmeriCorps program in 1994.

EnviroCorps provided individuals with an opportunity to serve the environment and the community as an AmeriCorps Member. EnviroCorps was one of approximately 800 AmeriCorps National Service programs across the country. AmeriCorps engages over 50,000 dedicated Americans every year in meeting the critical needs of communities in the areas of public safety, education, human needs, homeland security, and the environment. In exchange for one or two years of service, AmeriCorps members receive educational awards to help finance their college education or pay back student loans.

Although no longer an AmeriCorps program the City of Elkhart's Environmental Division is still in need of people to be a part of environmental education programs, restoration projects and volunteer and community events in Elkhart and with the Elkhart Environmental Center.  Please check out the City's Elkhart Environmental Center's website to find out about upcoming events and a variety of volunteering opportunities.
