Regulatory Affairs
The primary goal of the Regulatory Affairs Division is to ensure that rational, cost-effective, environmentally beneficial approaches are incorporated into regulatory measures that affect the operation of the Water and Wastewater Utility. The work performed in this division falls under five initiatives:
- Tracking of environmental regulations related to wastewater, drinking water, surface water, storm water, biosolids, air and hazardous substances.
- Providing assistance to Utility management and staff on interpreting applicable rules and regulations.
- Developing local regulatory measures, and implementing plans and policies to maintain compliance with environmental rules and regulations.
- Maintaining an open dialogue with the public on the regulatory initiatives and goals of the Utility.
- Continually seeking cost-effective, innovative ways to operate the Utility while promoting a healthy environment through special projects and grants.
Currently, the Regulatory Affairs Division employs one person, Sarah Mitchell, the Regulatory Affairs Director for Elkhart Public Works and Utilities.
