The Benefits office coordinates City of Elkhart employee benefits and workers compensation reporting. 
Coordinating and maintaining group benefits enrollments for City employees includes new employee benefits orientation, assistance for employees and retirees with enrollment and coverage issues, guidance for employees to best utilize their benefits plans, and advisement to terminating employees of their options. Our Benefits office also sets up and executes the annual benefits open enrollment. Maintaining group benefits files and the related financial tasks are part of the scope of duties for Benefits.
Benefits participates with the Human Resources Department Head, Mayor, and Cabinet members in reviewing group benefits options and provides information to assist administrative personnel in making prudent decisions regarding the City's group benefits programs. 
Benefits is overseen by the Benefits Advisory Committee and is responsible for promoting employee wellness initiatives. Benefits also participates with the Human Resources Office Manager and Safety Champions Committee in organizing the annual City employee health and safety fair. 
Additionally Benefits channels workers compensation reports and claims to the appropriate entities for processing.  Included in workers compensation duties, Benefits records and maintains the OSHA 300 reporting log and maintains workers compensation files.
