LIFEGUARDS

Facilities: Pierre Moran Swimming Pool and Ideal Beach Water Park 

Shifts and Pay Available:

  • Varied shifts; including July 4th holiday, weekends/days 6 hour shifts.
  • Restricted work hours, no employee will exceed 40 hours.
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age with reliable transportation to and from work. 
  • Copies of certifications required.
  • Lifeguarding water skills test will be required prior to hire.
  • $10.00 hourly pay

Experience:

  • Must have successfully passed the American Red Cross lifeguarding class; good swimming skills - a necessity; previous lifeguard experience preferred, but not required.
    Certifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding or Waterfront Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, First Aid required. Oxygen Administration preferred, but not required.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the safety of pool patrons by preventing accidents and responding quickly to emergency situations; must know and be able to perform all skills required for certifications; must follow and enforce pool policies and rules at all times; perform routine maintenance to facility, i.e. sweep, pick up trash, clean restrooms, etc.; must be capable to verbally communicate effectively with both public and staff, as well as, participate in in-service trainings.

 AQUATIC FACILITY MANAGERS

Pierre Moran Swimming Pool - Ideal Beach Water Park - McNaughton Spray Park 

Shifts and Pay Available:

  • Varied shifts; including July 4th holiday, weekends/days 6-8 hour shifts.
  • Restricted work hours, no employee will exceed 40 hours.
  •  25-35 hours per week.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age 21 or older preferred with reliable transportation to and from work. 
  • $9-$12 hourly pay determined upon experience and qualifications. 

Pierre Moran/ Ideal Beach Managers 

Experience:

  • Three (3) seasons of American Red Cross lifeguarding experience preferred; willingness to learn and take lifeguarding, strong communication, public relations and leadership skills required; one (1) season swimming pool or other management.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding or Waterfront Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, First Aid required. Oxygen Administration preferred, but not required.

Job Duties:

  • Supervise the operation of a municipal pool or beach front property; schedule staff at facility; supervise cashiers and lifeguards while on duty; schedule event rentals at facilities; conduct in-service trainings; coordinate daily facility maintenance; oversee and responsible for light bookkeeping and calculate and turn in time cards for staff.
  • Manage and balance money from admissions and concessions daily, complete all appropriate paper work associated with the day’s tally and are responsible for making daily deposits of days’ sales to First Source Bank, Franklin Street, Elkhart, IN
  • Supervise and assist in routine daily maintenance, i.e. sweep, pick up trash, clean restrooms, etc.; must follow and enforce all city policies, facility policies and rules at all times and must be able to verbally communicate with both public and staff effectively.

 McNaughton Managers

Experience:

  • Management experience preferred.
  • Strong communication; public relations and leadership skills required and experience working with and managing personnel preferred.

 

Certifications:

  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications preferred.

Job Duties:

  • Oversee and responsible for light bookkeeping; supervise and assist in routine daily maintenance, i.e. sweep, pick up trash, clean restrooms, etc.; must follow and enforce all city policies, facility policies and rules at all times and must be able to verbally communicate with both public and staff effectively.

SWIM LESSON COORDINATOR
Pierre Moran Swimming Pool

Hours and Pay Available:

  • Varied shifts; including July 4th holiday, weekends and evenings not to exceed 30 hours per week during lessons.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with reliable transportation to and from work. 
  • $10 - $12 hourly pay determined upon experience and qualifications. 

The Swim Lesson Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation of the Swim Lesson Program at Pierre Moran Pool including planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating lessons.

Experience:

  • Two seasons of lesson teaching experience; must possess strong organizational, communication, public relations and strong leadership skills; highly-skilled instructor.

Certifications:

  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor preferred (not required), current American Red Cross WSI (preferred) and First Aid.

Job Duties:

  • Organizes and directs the swimming lesson program; supervises and schedules all swimming instructors in accordance with the Elkhart Parks and Recreation’s instructional American Red Cross swim program; oversees and maintains training of all swim lesson instructors and performs related duties as required.

 

 

LIFEGUARD AUDITOR

Pierre Moran Swimming Pool - Ideal Beach Water Park - McNaughton Spray Park

Hours and Pay Available:

  • Varied shifts; include July 4th holiday, weekends and evenings not to exceed 30 hours per week.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with reliable transportation to and from work. 
  • Copies of certifications required.
  • $10 - $12 hourly pay determined upon experience and qualifications.

 Experience:

  • Lifeguard experience required; must possess strong organizational, effectively communicate with public and staff, public relations; strong leadership skills; highly-skilled lifeguard.

Certifications:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor preferred current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Administration (preferred), and First Aid. Indiana Driver’s License (must provide a copy of driving record and insurance).

Job Duties:

  • Must have reliable transportation; responsible for auditing 35+ lifeguards two times each throughout the summer; will test lifeguards' scanning techniques; CPR and rescue skills and professionalism. Will conduct bi-weekly in-service trainings at each facility, facility audits will also be conducted randomly, to assess facility and manager awareness.

 WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTORS/SWIM LESSON INSTRUCTORS

Pierre Moran Swimming Pool

Hours and Pay Available:

  • Varied shifts; including July 4th holiday, weekends, weekdays and possibly evenings.
  • Up to 15 hours maximum, weekly.
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age with reliable transportation to and from work. 
  • Copies of certifications required.
  • $8.50 - $9 hourly pay determined upon experience and qualifications. 

Experience: 

  • Must have great people skills; work well with children and adults; teaching experience preferred.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate with both the public and staff effectively.

Certification:

  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor preferred the following are preferred, but not required for this position: American Red Cross lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid or Community CPR and First Aid.

Skills Test:

  • Pass all American Red Cross WSI tests and demonstrate competency in the understanding of American Red Cross Swimming Lesson program levels.

Job Duties:

  • Will report to Swim Lesson Coordinator.
  • Instruct various levels of classes; pre-school through Learn to Swim and Community Water Safety.
  • Complete all forms, lesson plans, and ‘check’ sheets on a timely basis as required by the Swim Lesson Coordinator.

CASHIERS/CONCESSIONS/SPRAY PARK ATTENDANTS

Facilities: Pierre Moran Swimming Pool, McNaughton Spray Park, Ideal Beach Water Park,

 McNaughton Park Concerts and Riverview Park 

Hours and Pay Available:

  • Varied shifts; including July 4th holiday, weekends, and evenings/closing up to 20-35 hours per week.
  • Applicants must be at least 15 years of age with reliable transportation to and from work. 
  • $8.25 -  $9 hourly pay determined upon experience and qualifications. 

 Experience:

  • Cash handling experience preferred, but not required.

Certifications: 

  • CPR or Hands Only CPR and First Aid preferred, but not required.

Job Duties:

  • Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer; maintain outstanding standards; solid product knowledge and all other aspects of customer service.
  • Count working cash; count and balance actual cash made for the day; help in emergency situations at the facilities; answer the phone; take messages and any other assigned duties as needed such as cleaning and maintaining bathrooms, cleaning and maintaining concessions, removing trash and other related duties as assigned. 
  • All cashiers/concessions workers must be willing to work at all sites.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate effectively with both public and staff.

SPRAY PARK ATTENDANTS

McNaughton Spray Park

 The above guidelines apply with the following additional duties.

  • Must be able to successfully guide and instruct children. Previous work with young children and adults preferred.
  • Responsible for the safety of spray park patrons by preventing accidents and responding quickly to emergency situations; must know and be able to perform duties while working in the water and sun; must follow and enforce city policies, facility policies and rules at all times; perform routine maintenance to facility, i.e. sweep, pick up trash, clean restrooms, etc.; must be able to verbally communicate effectively with both public and staff.

DAY CAMP LEADERS

City Park's Pavilions 

 Sites: McNaughton, Willowdale, and High Dive (formerly Pinewood) Parks

 Hours and Pay Available:

  • Standard day 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday
  • Up to 25-35 hours weekly.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with reliable transportation to and from work. 
  • $9 - $11 hourly pay determined upon experience and qualifications. 

 Experience:

  • Must have work experience with children, experience in a school setting beneficial.

Certifications:

  • CPR or Hands Only CPR and First Aid preferred, but not required.

Job Duties:

  • Assist with supervision, coordination and implementation of school-age programs in a Day Camp setting. 
  • Duties include planning, leading and instructing a variety of activities with the participants; as well as, assist and lead comprehensive programming which includes arts & crafts, sports, games, music, drama, and special events.  
  • Excellent communication, written and verbal; problem solving; community relations and decision-making skills a must, and must be able to work outside in the heat.

TENNIS INSTRUCTORS

High Dive Park, Central High School, McNaughton and Pinewood Park Tennis Courts

 Hours and Pay Available:

  • Varied shifts; including July 4th holiday, weekends, and evenings up to 20-38 hours weekly.
  • Restricted work hours, no employee will exceed 38 hours.
  • Applicants must be at least 17 years of age with reliable transportation to and from work. 
  • $8.50 - $12 hourly pay commensurate upon experience and qualifications. 

 Experience:

  • Must have a demonstrated knowledge of tennis; be able to teach tennis; be enthusiastic, energetic, and positive.

Certifications:

  • CPR or Hands Only CPR and First Aid preferred, but not required.

Job Duties:

  • Instruct tennis classes for youth and adult

 IDEAL BEACH MAINTENANCE CREW/MAINTENANCE MANAGER

Ideal Beach Water Park

 Shifts and Pay Available:

  • Varied shifts; including Memorial Day and July 4th holidays, begins early May, weekends/days 7am (or earlier) – Noon (hours may vary depending on Facility needs).
  • Restricted work hours, no employee will exceed 38 hours.
  •  25-38 hours per week.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with reliable transportation to and from work.
  • $9.00-$12 hourly pay determined upon experience and qualifications. 

 The overall purpose of this position is to perform any necessary Ideal Beach maintenance.

 Experience: 

  • Must have great people skills; work well with adults; knowledge of hand tools, power tools, lawn mowers, weed eaters, power washers and other ‘light’ machinery experience preferred.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with pool maintenance preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift at least 100 pounds in weight and maneuver 200 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Work in extreme conditions, heat, cold, rain. Work with potentially hazardous equipment, tools and chemicals. Conditions include but are not limited to exposure to dirt, dust, rain, hazardous chemicals, electrical equipment and machinery.

Job Duties:

  • Perform day to day maintenance.
  • Clean and remove all trash daily.
  • Clean and sweep kiddie and catch pools. Maintain chemicals and record chemical levels.
  • Complete repair work, painting, building or other projects. Mowing, weed eating, planting, edging, weeding and hedging as needed. Clean and remove goose debris from the sidewalks, beach and other patron areas.
  • Any other job assigned by the Maintenance Manager or Parks & Recreation Coordinator.

 Manager

 Perform above duties as well as:

  • Must be available the whole season beginning in May-August.
  • Manage staff and tasks.
  • Oversee all assignments.
  • Create and distribute working calendar.
  • Monitor and tally payroll, turning payroll in each Monday by 10 am.
  • Communicate needs or any issues with the beach or staff to the Recreation Coordinator.
