Leaf Removal

By ordinance, open burning is not allowed in the City. Therefore, the City provides a Leaf Removal Program. Rake them to the curb* and the Street Department will pick them up. The program operates in the fall from mid-October to mid-November and again in the spring from mid-April to mid-May. For information, call the Street Department, 293-5518.

*Please do not put leaves or leaf piles in the street.  Leaf piles in the street can cause safety issues and clog our storm drains.

Helpful tips for residents:

  1. Leaves should be placed in a separate pile from brush and limbs. Leaf machines are designed to pick up leaves only. Sticks will clog the machines, causing delays.
  2. City ordinance states that citizens should rake their leaves to the curb, but not extending into the street, in accordance with the posted pickup schedule. Leaves can easily clog the storm sewer grates and may cause flooding.
  3. Brush and limbs should also be stacked on the curb, but not extending into the street, the day before your trash is scheduled to be picked up.
  4. To ensure city equipment is able to collect the entire brush and limb pile, piles should be no more than four feet high and eight feet long. Limbs should be no more than six inches around.
