Staff-Led Programs
Summer only
Programs cost $2 per child. For a list of programs offered by the Elkhart Environmental Center, please contact us via email (EECmail@coei.org) or call (574) 293-5070. If you are an educator and would like to request a program, please download and return the Environmental Education Program Request Form.

Due to reductions in staff in recent years, the EEC is only able to offer programs led by EEC staff member during the summer or when seasonal or volunteer staff are available. But don’t let that stop you! During the school year, the EEC is available for self-guided field trips and free program lesson kits are available for teachers to reserve for use during onsite field trips or back in their classroom.

To schedule a program, fill out our Environmental Education Program Request Form and return via email (EECmail@coei.org) or stop by and see us! Details about the program lesson kits can be found below.

The Three R’s
(3rd-5th grades)
Students will learn why recycling is so important by looking at our life-size garbage displays and seeing how much trash can really recycle. They will put their new knowledge to the test as they become a wise shopper to help the environment.

Focus on Groundwater
(6th-8th grades)
Kids will explore why the Elkhart Environmental Center is covered in clay and the importance of protecting our resources. Students will be able to see trash from different perspectives as they run their own town and decide the fate of their town's trash. Optional: use of our groundwater model, which demonstrates how pollution affects and moves through water systems.
