  Q. How much trash can be put out on a regular pick-up day?
A.Residents were issued 96-gallon carts. They may be filled to the top as long as the lid is tightly secured. If additional pick up is needed, extra bags and container tags may be purchased. Container tags are for any approved residential trash can and for Christmas tree disposal. Bag tags are for household garbage bags. Tags may be bought at area Martin's Super Markets or at Borden Waste-Away office. They may also be purchased via phone, but require a credit card and minimum five tag purchase.
  Q. What can be done with appliances or old pieces of furniture?
A.You are allowed to place two (2) large items and one (1) refrigerant per month at curbside for collection by BFI the day before your regular scheduled trash pick up day. Please remember to make the appliance safe by removing all doors.
  Q. Regarding code enforcement, do I have to give my name?
A.Yes, this is for tracking information only to make sure that your concern is addressed in a timely and professional manner.
  Q. What can I do with my leaves?
A.The City of Elkhart offers a leaf collection service for all residents in the Fall and Spring of each year. Leaves should be raked to the curb (not left in the street) and the Street Department will pick them up. The program operates from mid-October to mid-November and again from mid-April to mid-May. Please check the Street Department's Leaf Removal webpage for links to maps and dates. For additional information, call the Street Department, 293-5518.

The Elkhart Environmental Center does not accept waste of any type including leaf and other yard waste.
