Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all City-owned equipment. Employee is responsible for following all shop procedures and safety rules. This facility is in operation 24 hours a day and this position may be assigned to any operating shift.

2.  Maintenance Chief, Aviation Department; up to $56,690 Salary

Incumbent is responsible for assisting with administrative and supervisory duties associated with the operations of the Elkhart Municipal Airport. This position may recommend activities or methods, and evaluate and provide feedback required to meet safety, security, and maintenance needs. The Maintenance Chief may also assist in developing and enforcing airport policies and regulations. Incumbent acts on behalf of the Airport Department Head in his absence. This position is on call 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, and is responsible for leading, supervising, and motivating a team of Airfield Maintenance Technicians. Responsible for identifying opportunities for collaboration in the activities of this division with other divisions and departments throughout the City of Elkhart that promote and enhance effective, efficient and accountable operations.

3.  Assistant Director for Economic Development; up to $61,000 Salary

Promotes the retention and expansion of existing businesses and the development of new business through financing programs, land/building availability assistance, tax incentives and technical assistance through local partnerships. Administers and develops economic development policies and programs for the City of Elkhart.

4.  Planner II, Planning and Zoning; up to $50,615 Salary

Ensures compliance with the City Zoning Ordinance and perform other profession planning duties.  Serve as main staff member for customer service in the Permit Center.  Employee has significant impact on decisions and recommendations of the Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Historic Commission.

5.  Customer and Executive Services Manager, Permit Center; up to $55,434 Salary

Position leads and directs the day to day administrative support and customer services staff for the Building, Planning, Community and Economic Development departments, and the municipal building maintenance staff.  Supports the executive duties of the Director of Development Services and Building Commissioner.  Manages the City of Elkhart’s Permit Center.

The FOG Inspector is responsible for ensuring compliance with the City of Elkhart FOG Program requirements, performing commercial monitoring, inspection and surveillance, and investigating violations of FOG regulations.
