Visitors to the National New York Central Railroad Museum can also arrive by Amtrak, as Elkhart's depot is directly across the tracks from the Museum.  Two trains arrive in Elkhart from the east every morning: The Capitol Limited at 7:29am and The Lake Shore Limited at 8:25am.  The same trains arrive in Elkhart from Chicago every evening: The Capitol Limited at 8:53pm and The Lake Shore Limited at 12:22am.  The depot is a short walk from the Museum and is also located right next to Main Street.

The Capitol Limited is a long-distance train from Washington, D.C. to Chicago, while The Lake Shore Limited runs from New York to Chicago.  Both trains have coaches, sleepers, a lounge car and full meal service in the dining car.  Visit http://www.amtrak.com/ for more information.
