Environmental education is a priority for the Elkhart Environmental Center

Staff-Led Programs
The Elkhart Envirnonmental Center (EEC) offers a variety of environmental education programming and placed-based learning throughout the year. Provided below is a list of some of our more commonly-requested programming topics and some of the amenities that make the EEC a great venue. If you are looking for something specific and do not see it listed below, we do offer a boutique experience and are happy to cater our programming to your needs. Site Amenities
The Elkhart Environmental Center is a unique site with several amenities that make it a great venue for place-based learning. Amenities include:
  • A variety of trails (that range in length and accessibility)
  • A variety of habitats and ecosystems (riparian, wetland, forest, and prairie)
  • A unique history that demonstrates the impact of human-environmental interactions
  • Several types of wetlands
  • Rain gardens
  • Pollinator garden
  • Observation deck on Upper Wetland Trail
  • Learning garden (a community garden where we teach students about where food comes from and how to grow your own)
  • Picnic tables
  • Indoor displays and Kids Learning Loft -- including our resident box turtle, Lucy (Kids Learning Loft limited to 10 kids at a time and require a chaperone)

Scouts & Troops

The Elkhart Environmental Center is a great place to bring your scouts and troops for activities and events! If you have programming prepared and are just looking for a site to host it at, then look no more! The EEC is happy to host badge days and other events. If you are interested in EEC programming, we are excited to work with you! Please contact EEC for more information about organizing scout/troop events.
