FREE TREES! 10 AM - 12 PM

Each year, the EEC gives out free trees to the public and visitors work with our City's GIS team to map where they will plant them--you can see an updated map from past Arbor/Earth Day events HERE. A live updating map is displayed in our Visitor's Cabin during the event.

* While supplies last

10 PM - Pick up the perfect tree for your yard!

Trees are 18 - 24 inches tall and potted in 2-gallon buckets. This year's species selection includes:

  • American Plum
  • Eastern Redbud
  • White Flowering Dogwood
  • American Beech
  • Tulip Poplar
  • Hackberry

Stop by the visitor's center to check out our LIVE updating map! As visitors pick up their free trees, you can see where the different trees will be planted. You can check out a map of tree planting locations from past Earth/Arbor Day tree giveaways HERE.

Guided Hikes

Take a pleasant stroll through our trails and learn as you go!

Invasive Species Removal & Native Planting

11 AM - help EEC staff and volunteers remove invasive species from our onsite habitats! Learn what invasive species are, where they come from, how they are harmful to wildlife, and what you can do to help.

12 PM - help EEC staff and volunteers restore the habitat by planting native trees in the newly cleared area!

Spring Seeds & Starters Exchange

12 PM - Mix things up! Bring your seeds, bulbs, and plant starts to the EEC and exchange them with other gardeners. Plants must be healthy, potted in soil, and properly watered.

Kids' Activities

Our Learning Loft has games, puppets, books, and coloring activities for the kids.

The Elkhart Public Library will also have a booth with kids activities during the event.

City Department Booths

Departments from the City of Elkhart will be available to teach you more about trees! Check out our Aquatics booth by the river and see some cool fish, or chat with one of our city's engineers!
